On July 31, 2024 Change & Impact hosted its second Continuing Education Program on Stuttering with University of Louisiana at Lafayette Department of Communicative Disorders. The continuing education program, “Reconstructing a New Story of Stuttering,” included a wide range of topics and speakers including:
- Introduction to stuttering, and principles of comprehensive assessment and treatment: Michael Azios, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, Associate Professor at UL Lafayette
- Parent & SLP perspective on stuttering, individual and group therapy examples: Anne Zappi Williams, PhD, CCC-SLP, BCS-SCF, Clinical Educator at UL Lafayette
- School-based applications: Tessa Himel, MS, CCC-SLP, school-based SLP
- Special Guest Speaker: Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Stuttering Champion, NBA Veteran, UK Men’s Basketball Champion
- Panel Discussion: Michael Azios, Anne Zappi Williams, Tessa Himel, Isabella Fiorenza, BA, master’s student studying speech-language pathology at UL Lafayette
Attendees included UL Lafayette clinical supervisors, speech-language pathologists from the Louisiana parishes of Lafayette, Acadia, St. Martin and Iberia, and private medical practices. All SLPs in attendance earned continuing education units (CEUs).
